Kelly Planer & The Perks

Alt-bluegrass, Contemporary Roots Music for the 20th Century

Alt-bluegrass, contemporary roots ... call it what you like, but you must call the music of Kelly Planer and the Perks fun, exciting and original. Their unique blend of bluegrass and traditional American roots music with rock n' roll, blues, and pop sensibilities is a favorite among Lehigh Valley acoustic fans. Strong instrumental chops at break-neck speeds and lots of attitude lay the groundwork for the strong vocals of Kelly Planer.

At a Perks show, you'll hear Flatt & Scruggs and Bill Monroe alongside the likes of Nirvana, Neil Young and the Beatles. But this isn't your typical cover-band! The arrangements are fresh and exciting, frequently fusing several genres together into a cohesive, original sound. Sprinkled into the mix are band-penned originals, traditional songs and fast-paced instrumentals.

The Lehigh Valley quartet features the beautiful, yet powerful voice of Kelly Planer. Dave Coin's high-energy banjo picking is the foundation of the band's sound while Fran Lesusky adds flash and excitement with his rock-inspired acoustic guitar leads. Dean Johnson holds down the bottom with panache on the electric bass. With their musical versatility and passion for all music, there are no rules and certainly no limits at a Perks show.

No matter what the instrument configuration or the genre, Kelly Planer and the Perks deliver well-played and uniquely arranged songs for audiences with wide-ranging musical taste.
